All security safes are given what is known as an 'insurance rating'. This indicates the level of security and the maximum amount of cash that an insurance company will cover if stored in the safe overnight. The higher the rating, the more secure the safe. The insurance rating is determined by several factors.

With the absence of government licensing of locksmiths, The Master Locksmiths Association (MLA), a not for profit organisation established to promote the level of skills and ethics within the industry, has established its own licensing scheme whereby its approved companies are vetted, undergo regular inspections to ensure quality, and employ a locksmith with an exam based qualification.
